I'm not that sort of blogger!

Last week I decided to push the envelope a bit and so I, bravely, put a pitch to The Huffington Post for my blog.
In doing so I had to describe myself, to give something of myself so potential readers would know me and perhaps understand my blog better. What struck me in doing so, was that I described myself initially by what I wasn't. I wasn't the blogger that told you how to take great photos using your SLR of the Andes, nor was I a blogger to tell you how best to pack your backpack for a weekend in Barcelona. I'm not under the age of 30 so I'm not going to tell you how easy it is to pack up your life and go live on the other side of the world and get a job. They are really great practical blogs and I've read many of them myself and I appreciate their advice. But its not me.

So I'm not that sort of blogger! I'm not going to tell you which station to get off to get to Petronas Towers KLCC ( I do know actually but hey...) but I will tell you what it feels like to have the breeze brush past you as you walk through the gardens, or how the view of the ocean can take hours to absorb and I will tell you how the history of a place can still be felt today. I'll tell you how delicious the food is and share my pictures with you and I'll tell you how if you take an hour out of the day to sit by the pool in the shade you can knit back together the pieces of your heart.
There are exceptions though. Today I'm going to tell you that if you fly Air Asia X from Melbourne to Malaysia, do spend the additional $34 on the ticket and 'buy' a spare seat next to you. I did and it was the best thing I've done flight wise in ages! The day before my departure the email came to me saying yes, I have a spare seat - and on an 8 hour flight the extra space was going to be appreciated. No rubbing shoulders or elbows from the middle seat passenger, Yippee!
The additional bonus was Air Asia, to give me the spare seat, moved me from 'cattle' to 'the quiet zone'. This in itself was an upgrade. You can purchase seats in this area but it adds hundreds to your cheap ticket. When I arrived at the gate, this upgrade also gave me premium entry onto the plane, and bonus, this area of the plane was nearly empty so I ended up with a whole row to myself. During the flight I looked to see where my original seat was located and could hardly see it for the crowds!
Air Asia X to Malaysia was a good deal and would definitely recommend them. The seats were comfortable enough. I didn't pre purchase any food but still managed to gain a small bottle of white wine at lunchtime for 25MYR. Nor did I pre purchase any entertainment - my book and I easily whiled away the hours. With a whole row to myself I took a quick nap after lunch and an hour passed by.
OK, so maybe this once I am that sort of blogger LOL.

Now I'm over that hurdle, I would also recommend to you when you visit Malaysia and stay in Kuala Lumpur, to do so at The Sheraton Imperial. It is a luxury hotel at a budget (by Aussie standards) price. For the equivalent of $110 per night, I have a large room, suite size really, overlooking the KL Tower on the Club Lounge level. I have a sofa and a desk for writing my blog. A king size bed and a walk in robe. A large bathroom with full-size bath and corner shower. One could have a party in there!
The Club Lounge level entitles you to access the club on floor 38 and to admire from there the sweeping views of the city. Included is breakfast of a morning, meeting rooms etc and of an evening.... drinks and hors d'oeuvres. For me, this makes dinner. The Club Level prides itself on its service and the food is a blend of local malay, asian and western cuisines. One can, and I have, whiled away the evening sipping on something lovely and watching the sun set. At about 6.30pm one can hear the call to prayer echo over the city.
I'm not that sort of blogger but perhaps this time I am.
These are my own thoughts on Air Asia and Sheraton and no, no one has paid me to say these nice things.
Perhaps if I get my blog into The Huffington Post that might change LOL..... The Beyond Blonde blogger continuing her journey.
