Extreme Food

Jamie is exhorting me to eat Super Foods but my Instagram is full of pictures of the other extreme - mega milk shakes, cronuts, donuts, wonuts and waffles. This week my favourite vege is asparagus. Love it! I've been cooking whole bunches of asparagus serving the spears with either butter (sprinked with salt and pepper) or hollandaise, creamy deliciousness and a meal all of its own.

BUT! ... Geelong is in the grip of a surge of cafes that are raising the bar on the sweet.

Launch Espresso are the place to go for cronuts - this last weekend treat was the Oreo Cronut, filled with a chocolate mousse. A few weeks ago their Lemon, Lime and Bitters cronut was a delight to behold.

The Pickers Union specialise in the Wonut - an unbelievable cross between waffle and donut that looks too good to be true. This version, Malteser wonut with shards of caramel crunch.

I don't think Geelong is alone in being in the grip of an 'extreme food frenzy'. Walking down Chapel St South Yarra I am greeted too by opportunities to indulge, Zumbo's patisserie specialises in deliciousness of all sorts though the star here is a macaron. Or Deluxe Bite with cake oozing with lusciousness.

Jamie is showing me how to mix ingredients to create perfectly balanced meals full of the good stuff - others urge me to Paleo, Atkins or Vegan. As Sophocles said, "All things in moderation" so I'm hoping I can eat my cake (sorry, cronut) and have it too!
